Thunderbirds Earn Second Win of Season

The Algoma Thunderbirds women's basketball team picked up their first win of 2017 this evening at the George Leach Centre. In their annual Shoot for the Cure event, the Thunderbirds ran past the Western Mustangs 51-43.
 
Karissa Kajorinne led the Thunderbirds in the win with 14 points and 6 rebounds. Sydney Resch and Karina Cole also earned double digits.
 
The Thunderbirds shot 34.6 per cent from the field and went 7-10 from the line.

"It's great on such a special night - our 'Shoot for the Cure' - we were able to come together to pull out the win. Everyone was playing for someone tonight it's just a good feeling on an important night," said Head Coach Ryan Vetrie
 
Julia Curran led the Mustangs with 16 points and 6 rebounds.

Algoma improves to 2-13 in the OUA West.
 
The Thunderbirds continue their home stand against the Mustangs tomorrow evening at 6:00pm.
