Algoma University and the Thunderbird Varsity Athletics Program are pleased to announce that Aimee Garland has joined the women's basketball program for the 2018-19 season.
"Aimee rounds out our recruiting class this year at the guard position. We are very happy to have Aimee join us as she has some college experience and will add more depth to our team," said women's Head Coach
Ryan Vetrie. "I really liked Aimee's drive when speaking with her. She sets goals, takes initiative to obtain those goals, and is self-motivated. She handles it well, shoots it well, and is unselfish, everything you look for in a point guard. She is eager to take on the challenge of playing at the next level and we're looking forward to see what she can accomplish next year."
Garland is a 5'4 point guard from Winnipeg, Manitoba and will be pursuing a three-year psychology degree. She joins the Thunderbirds from Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) where she was a starter as a freshman and a top scorer in her team's MCAC Championship victory. She earned the coveted title of Rookie of the Year for this past season.
"I chose Algoma because of how welcoming everyone was. I felt like Algoma was the right fit for me: basketball-wise I love the work ethic of the team and how hard Coach Ryan works the team, and school-wise it has the education I'm interested in," said Garland.
