Thunderbirds Face the Windsor Lancers in Home Opener Weekend

(SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont): This past weekend, the Thunderbirds faced the Windsor Lancers in back to back games. On Friday, we celebrated our home opener to kick off the season. The Thunderbirds came with fresh players and familiar faces. The women's game brought in a full house, and we loved seeing the energy from the crowd! The team scored the most in the second quarter, with a total of 16 points. Unfortunately, the team lost 77-31 to the Lancers. Tops scorer from the game was Bethany Belaktsis with a total of 11 points.

The men's team certainly kept us on the edge of our seats on Friday. With Windsor leading by one point after the first quarter, the Thunderbirds took the lead with a score of 37-35 after the second. Unfortunately, the second half of the game saw a comeback from the Lancers. With that, the final score of the game was 88-63 for Windsor. Top scorers of the game were Johan Germain with 15 points and Devin Miron following closely behind with 14 points.

We dedicated Saturday's games to our Movember initiative. The women's team was eager to have a stronger game. Once again, they scored the most points in the second quarter. With Bethany scoring 17 points in the game, the score was better than the day before, finishing with 72-47 for Windsor.

On Saturday, the men's team had some ups and downs. With one player injured, the team did their best to continue without one of their teammates. Falling short for the first half of the game, the team showed a good fight in the third quarter, scoring a total of 26 points. The game ended with a final score of 102-71 for Windsor. Top scorer of the game was Adrian Deere with 17 points.

Proceeds from Saturday's Games will be dedicated to Movember. This fundraising initiative is to bring awareness to men's health, suicide prevention, testicular cancer, and prostate cancer.

Next weekend, we will be hosting the Western Mustangs! Join us at the George Leach Centre for more basketball action!
