Why Choose Algoma U

1301Algoma University is located in the heart of the Great Lakes in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, and has been educating the north for over 50 years. With 3,225 students, we offer a variety of undergraduate programs, and have recently expanded into masters programs.

We offer over 30 different academic programs, spanning the liberal arts, sciences, and professional disciplines. All of our programs offer undergraduate research opportunities and hands-on learning. Classes are capped at 75 students, even in first year, meaning that you have more one-on-one interactions with our knowledgeable and caring faculty. Our faculty will know you on a first name basis and will work hard to make your dreams a success, both inside and outside of the classroom. Personal attention and a commitment to your success are the cornerstones of an Algoma degree.

As a partner with Shingwauk Kinoomaage Gamig (SKG), we have a special mission to cultivate cross-cultural learning between Anishinaabe (First Nations, Métis, and Inuit) populations and other communities in Northern Ontario. Over 13 percent of our students self-identify as Anishinaabe, and another 27 per cent come from outside of Canada, giving Algoma U the most diverse campus in Ontario. We embrace and foster diversity and value differing perspectives.
