This past weekend, the Thunderbirds hosted the Laurier Golden Hawks in back to back games. We dedicated these games to our Shoot for the Cure fundraiser in collaboration with USports and the Canadian Cancer Society. Half time events included hair cutting and pies to the face, with all proceeds and donations going towards the fight against Breast Cancer. This weekend was also special as it was the first time this season that we were allowing for spectators.
In game day action, our women's team threw on their pink jerseys and took to the court Friday night.
Megan Looney was our top scorer for the game, earning her team 18 points. Unfortunately, the girls lost 58-46 but held strong in the first three quarters of the game. The men's team came out to the court and with explosiveness and quick feet. They too had a close game, but lost 71-63. Top scorer of the game was
Maxime Bellony with an astounding 31 points.
On Saturday, the women lost 71-63, as
Thais Matte earned her team 14 points as the top scorer. The men faced a loss of 89-61.
Maxime Bellony was the top scorer for his team once again, earning them 16 points. Although the teams faced some tough losses, we saw some amazing game day highlights! Having spectators added amazing energy to the event!
The Thunderbirds face the Lakehead Thunderwolves next weekend - February 18th and 19th. We will be allowing spectators once again. This is the last home game of the season, so we hope to see you there! More details to come.
