(SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont): This past Friday the Algoma Thunderbirds celebrated Shoot for the Cure - a cross-country fundraising initiative presented by USports and the Canadian Cancer Society.
During the women's half time, Sault College Hairstyling joined us for our hair cutting tradition. We had three fantastic volunteers participate in the big chop! During the men's half time, we had three familiar faces get pied in the face. With new pink jerseys and new STFC warm up shirts, we couldn't have asked for a more successful event. All proceeds from the game will go towards our team page to help support breast cancer research and resource development.
On Friday, both teams faced the UOttawa GeeGees. Although the women's team had a fairly good first quarter, the GeeGees pulled ahead for the rest of the game. Final score of the game was 87-31 with
Kaila Fong getting 8 points for the team.
Grace Silverthorn had 8 rebounds.
The men's team had a string final quarter, but it was the GeeGees who took the game with a final score of 87-50. Top scorer of the game was
Jaylen White with 11 points and 6 rebounds.
On Saturday, the teams faced the Carleton Ravens. The women had a great final quarter, but it was not enough to make up for the rest of the game. Final score was 71-38 with Kaila Fogn and Aliison Read earning the team 8 points each. Fong and Silverthorn both had 6 rebounds.
The men had a better game on Saturday, keeping us on the edge of our seats. After a comeback in the third quarter, it was a tight game. The Ravens pulled through and won with a final score of 85-65. Top scorer of the game was
Johan Germain with 23 points.
Jaylen White had 9 rebounds.
