The Algoma University Thunderbirds are thrilled to announce the addition of Dominic Alford, a center back from Walsall, England, to the men's soccer program.
Alford, who has been playing since the age of five, brings a wealth of experience from the English football system, as well as time spent training in Portugal and Sweden. With two years of collegiate experience in the United States at the JUCO level, he is no stranger to high-level competition. Most recently, he competed in the MCACC Region Final and was part of the 2024 MCACC Regular Season Championship-winning squad.
A strong, committed, and fearless defender, Alford prides himself on his leadership abilities and his ability to elevate those around him. "Along with my great leadership qualities and my vast experience playing many years in the English football system I will bring this to lift the program. I am a committed, brave, and bright person and will give my all to become a better player and teammate at Algoma."
Off the field, Alford enjoys staying active in the gym and playing rugby. He will be studying either Finance & Economics or Business Administration – Economics at Algoma University.
When asked why he chose Algoma, Alford emphasized the well-rounded opportunities the university offers. "I feel Algoma has the perfect balance of everything I'm looking for moving forward—great access to the outdoors, a strong soccer program with excellent facilities, and a strong academic program to help me continue my career."
Welcome to the Thunderbirds, Dominic!
