Elia Galdos Signs with Algoma Thunderbirds Women’s Basketball

The Algoma University Thunderbirds are proud to welcome Elia Galdos to the women's basketball program for the upcoming season.

Originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Elia has been playing basketball since she was 10 and brings nearly a decade of experience and dedication to the court. She plays both center and forward, and her game is defined by an aggressive mindset, team-first attitude, and competitive edge.

Elia has competed at the AAA Provincials (2022), AAU level (2023–2024), and in both the NIAC and MCAC collegiate conferences. She previously played for TAP Manitoba (Targeted Athlete Program) and Les Rouges at Université de Saint-Boniface. In 2024, she was recognized as a AAAA Girls Manitoba Graduating All-Star, a testament to her elite play and leadership.

Off the court, Elia is equally accomplished. She was named to the Dean's Honour List at Université de Saint-Boniface in Winter 2025 and will be pursuing a degree in Political Science at Algoma University. Her hobbies include reading, cooking, spending time outdoors, and staying active through running and walks in nature.

"I chose Algoma University because it offers everything I was looking for—high level basketball, a welcoming community, beautiful natural surroundings, and a program I'm passionate about. I believe the Thunderbirds program will provide new experiences and help me grow more as a player," said Galdos.

Welcome to Algoma, Elia!
