Thunderbird Women's Basketball Road Games Against Queen’s and Ontario Tech

The Algoma University Thunderbirds women's basketball team wrapped up a challenging road weekend with determined efforts against Queen's on Friday and Ontario Tech on Saturday, highlighted by strong individual performances and continued growth from a young roster.

Algoma opened the weekend in Kingston, falling 106–34 to undefeated Queen's at the ARC. Brooke Gruhn led the Thunderbirds offensively with 20 points, knocking down four three-pointers on the afternoon. Gruhn also added three rebounds and three assists, providing a steady presence on the perimeter.

Taylor Randall finished with five points and five rebounds, while Sadie Grawbarger and Elia Galdos each contributed four points. Galdos was active on both ends of the floor, recording four assists.

The Thunderbirds bounced back with a more competitive showing Saturday night in Oshawa, but ultimately came up short in a 75–57 loss to Ontario Tech.

Grawbarger delivered a strong all-around performance, leading Algoma with 18 points and pulling down 10 rebounds for a double-double. Donnelly followed with an efficient 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting, while Galdos added 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds.

Gruhn contributed four points and four assists, and Mercedes Mazzuca provided a spark off the bench with seven points. Annabelle Lefebvre added two points and four rebounds, while Bernadette Maranan had six rebounds as Algoma battled on the boards.

Despite the results, the weekend showcased continued development across the Thunderbirds lineup, with Grawbarger and Donnelly pacing the offense and Galdos providing interior presence.

Algoma will look to build on Saturday's improved performance as the team continues its season next weekend at home.  The Thunderbirds play the University of Ottawa Gee Gees on Thursday, January 29th at 8:00 pm and the Carleton Ravens on Sunday, February 1st at 12 noon.  Both games will be streamed live by Saultsports.com on OUA tv .
