The Algoma University men's basketball team wrapped up the 2025–26 OUA regular season with back-to-back road tests against two playoff-bound opponents, showing resilience and balanced contributions.
Friday, Feb. 13 – Algoma 54, Western 80 (London, Ont.)
Algoma opened the weekend with a competitive start at Alumni Hall, matching Western stride for stride early and holding the game to a 13–13 tie after the first quarter. The Mustangs found separation in the middle frames, but the Thunderbirds continued to battle.
Chance Beaudoin-Skerritt and Kal-El Alejo led Algoma with 13 points apiece, with Beaudoin-Skerritt adding four rebounds and three assists. Shalom Anyikwa was strong on the glass, posting nine points and eight rebounds, while Oliver Kristoffersen chipped in five boards. Despite shooting challenges from long range, Algoma stayed engaged defensively and shared the ball, closing the season's final road Friday with effort on both ends.
Saturday, Feb. 14 – Algoma 69, Windsor 79 (Windsor, Ont.)
Less than 24 hours later, the Thunderbirds responded with their best offensive showing of the weekend at the Toldo Lancer Centre. Algoma led by as many as eight points in the second quarter and took a 42–44 edge into halftime before Windsor surged late.
Jean-Luc Cubahiro paced Algoma with a standout performance, scoring 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting while adding eight rebounds. Anyikwa followed with 13 points and four rebounds, and Beaudoin-Skerritt matched that 13-point output while dishing four assists. Alejo contributed 10 points, five rebounds, and four assists, and Elijah Quissua provided a spark off the bench with a perfect 1-for-1 effort from deep.While the final results didn't tilt Algoma's way, the Thunderbirds finished the 2025–26 regular season competing hard on the road against quality opposition. With multiple players stepping up across both games, the weekend reflected the group's growth and fight as they closed the campaign together.
