Thunderbirds Set to Kick-Off 2026–27 OUA Soccer Season
The Algoma University Thunderbirds are set to take the pitch for the 2026–27 Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Men's and Women's Soccer season, with both teams opening their campaigns on the road this upcoming weekend before returning home for a special Labour Day weekend doubleheader.
Opening Weekend on the Road
The Thunderbirds begin their season at McMaster University in Hamilton on
Friday, August 28,
2026, with the Women's team playing at
6:00 p.m., followed by the Men's team at
8:15 p.m.
The road trip continues on
Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the University of Guelph. The Women's game begins at
6:00 p.m., followed by the Men's game at
8:15 p.m.
Home Opener at Superior Heights Turf Field
Following the opening weekend, the Thunderbirds will make their highly anticipated home debut on
Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Superior Heights Turf Field, located at
750 North St. The Thunderbirds will welcome the
Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks to Sault Ste. Marie, with the Women's game kicking off at
1:00 p.m. and the Men's game at
3:15 p.m.
The excitement continues
Sunday, September 6, 2026, with the Thunderbirds hosting their annual
Sault Youth Soccer Day against Wilfrid Laurier. Young soccer players from across the community are invited to come out, wear their team uniforms and experience OUA soccer right here in Sault Ste. Marie.
Sunday's Women's game will begin at
1:00 p.m., with the Men's game following at
3:15 p.m., both at Superior Heights Turf Field.

Tickets are available for purchase on-site upon arrival and are payable by cash at the doors.
