The George Leach
Centre (GLC) is the official home of Algoma Thunderbird Athletics. The GLC was built in 1992, and named after Algoma University's first-ever Athletics and Recreation Director, George Leach. It is open to our student population, staff, and the public.

In 2016, the GLC was expanded to include more space, equipment, and recreational options. We have three group fitness studios, three indoor courts, and a weight room with state-of-the-art equipment. Our outdoor facility includes two tennis courts and basketball nets.

A variety of group fitness classes are offered, including but not limited to: Zumba, Step, Spin, Yoga, and Pilates. We have a larger group fitness studio, a spin studio, and a private room studio. While there are no classes, members have access to the studios. Group fitness classes are offered Monday through Saturday and new classes are being offered every month to better serve the community.

In the Fieldhouse, Court 1 is dedicated to serve a variety of activities. At the North end, you will find functional training equipment such as plyo boxes, Olympic lifting pads, and tires. This court also hosts activities such as basketball, pickleball, and volleyball. For information on open training times please visit the Multi-Purpose Court Schedule section.

Our basketball court was used in the 65th NBA All-Star basketball game, hosted by the Toronto Raptors at the Air Canada Centre. It was donated in 2016. The Fieldhouse transforms on game days to host spectators as our athletes compete against other universities in the OUA. The final court in the Fieldhouse is our indoor tennis court. The three courts are surrounded by a one-ninth mile indoor walking and jogging track.

We have public change rooms with saunas, as well as Gender-Neutral change rooms. Our athletes have their own Varsity Lounge where they can get ready before games or recover after practice.
