Trevor Manchester

Trevor Manchester is the first-ever Head Coach of the Algoma Thunderbirds wrestling team. He has been with the Algoma Wrestlers for four years and has been instrumental in building the OUA level team.
 
Manchester, born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, has been wrestling for 22 years, and been coaching wrestling for 10 years. Besides coaching CIS level athletes, Manchester also heads the Korah Collegiate and Vocational School wrestling team and is President of the Algoma Wrestling Club in Sault Ste. Marie.
 
In his inaugural year with the Algoma Thunderbirds, Algoma wrestlers earned a fourth place finish in the CIS Championships. The team also brought home five medals in the regular season, including gold, silver, and three bronze. His team’s performances on the mats earned him the title of Coach of the Year for the Algoma Thunderbirds.
 
In his second season as Head Coach, the Algoma Wrestlers earned a CIS Championship bronze, OUA Championship silver, and eight regular season tournament medals, including gold, four silver, and three bronze. His wrestlers also earned OUA Second Team All-Star and Academic All Canadian nods, as well as won the H.P. Broughton Award and bragging rights as Sportsperson of the Year in Sault Ste. Marie. His wrestlers have also earned the coveted title of Student-Athlete of the Year for two consecutive years at the Algoma Thunderbirds Athletics Awards.
 
Manchester is Level 2 NCCP Theory Certified, Level 3 Technical and Practical NCCP Certified, and is working toward earning his Level 3 NCCP Theory Certification.
 
As a student-athlete, Manchester wrestled with Korah Collegiate and Vocational School before completing his five years of eligibility with Lakehead University while studying in the Concurrent Education program. Manchester is a two-time OUA Champion (2003 and 2005).
 
When recruiting, Manchester looks for students with good academic standing and who are dedicated and committed to the sport. He demands a minimum of 15 hours a week of practice and a regimented fitness schedule, though some of his student-athletes commit to over 30 hours a week of on-mat practices. Practices happen six days a week.
 
Besides being a full-time coach at Algoma University in the athletics department, Manchester is also a mathematics teacher at Korah Collegiate.
