Soccer Weekend Recap: Men Take First Win of the Season

This past weekend the teams faced Windsor and Brock in back to back away games.

Women's Game 1 Recap:
Saturday's game was a tough loss for the women. With a goal being scored by Windosr' Corazza in the first minute of the game, the team took a huge lead over the Thunderbirds. Goalkeeper Victoria Fernandes had six saves.

Men's Game 1 Recap:
It was a big day for the men's team on Saturday, with the program winning their first game since 2019. Samuel Bablola scored the first goal in the 9th minute, assisted by Luca Martinello. The second goal, scored by Elliot Swenarchuk, was scored in the 87th minute of the game and assisted by Taofeeq Sumbadfe. Joshua Bondiuc had two save during the game.

Women's Game 2 Recap:
It was another tough loss for the women, with Brock's Young getting four goals in the first half. Other teammates followed suit, ending the game with a lead over the Thunderbirds. We saw performances from two goalkeepers this game, with Victoria Fernandes making 2 saves, and Julia Mazzuca making an incredible 10 saves.

Men's Game 2 Recap:
After an exciting game versus Windsor, we suspect that the Thunderbirds went into the game versus Brock with high hopes. A great effort put forth by the Thunderbirds, but the teams ended the day with a draw. Goalkeeper Joshua Bonduc made one save during the game.

Looking Ahead:
The teams face the York Lions on home turf! On Saturday, September 21st, we will be hosting our Orange Shirt Day game in honour of Every Child Matters. Proceeds from the game will be donated to our SASA Scholarship. We encourage everyone to wear orange. The teams play at 1pm & 3:15pm. 

On Sunday, September 22nd, the teams play York once again at 1pm & 3:15pm. Join us for a special presentation of our Soccer Bursary in collaboration with Soo City United.
