(LONDON, Ont): The Algoma Thunderbirds men's soccer team hit the road to London on Sunday to face the Western Mustangs, falling 2-0 in a spirited contest at Alumni Stadium.
Algoma came out with energy, generating several first-half opportunities. Brett Findlay led the charge with two shots, including one on target, while Hiroki Wada and Nicolas Palmeiro also tested Western's goalkeeper early. Gabriel Etienne added another first-half strike as the Thunderbirds kept pressure on the Mustang backline.
In net, the Thunderbirds relied on both Anthony Berganza and Joshua Bondoc, who split time and combined for six saves against a relentless Western attack. Berganza turned aside a dangerous attempt in the opening half before giving way to Bondoc, who stood tall with five saves in the second.
Western capitalized late in each half, scoring in the 42nd and again at the final whistle to secure the result. Despite the loss, Algoma matched Western with physicality, winning corners and staying disciplined in their defensive shape
