(SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont.): The Algoma Thunderbirds women's soccer team welcomed the Windsor Lancers to Superior Heights this past weekend for a back-to-back set of matches. The Thunderbirds showed grit and determination across both games, with goalkeeper Paisley Pennington once again standing tall in net and several players generating key offensive opportunities.
Game One (September 27):
In Saturday's contest, the Thunderbirds worked to contain a strong Windsor attack. Despite facing 14 shots on goal, Pennington delivered another standout performance, making 12 saves to keep Algoma within striking distance. Offensively, Sylvie Kostyshin was dangerous with four shots on target, while Berlyn Killoran and Yvonne Barnes also pressed forward to challenge Windsor's backline.
Windsor managed goals just before halftime and late in the second half, securing a 2-0 win. Algoma's defensive core, led by Madalyn Clement and Samantha Mazzuca, absorbed heavy pressure and showed resilience throughout the match.

Game Two (September 28):
Sunday's rematch saw Algoma generate early momentum, with Barnes, Kostyshin, and Julia Mazzuca each testing Windsor's keeper as the Thunderbirds tallied five first-half shots on target. However, Windsor capitalized on its chances, breaking through in the 25th minute and adding two more in the second half.
Pennington made nine saves in another busy outing, while Maddi Rouleau and Barnes created Algoma's best attacking looks. Despite a 3-0 result, the Thunderbirds demonstrated persistence and continued to push forward until the final whistle
