(SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont): This past weekend, the Thunderbirds took on the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday. This game was the kick off for the OUA's Anti-Racism week, and the revenue and funds from the game will be donated to the Shingwauk Anishinaabe Student Association Scholarship. The teams also warmed up in orange shirt to acknowledge the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation which will take place on September 30th.
The women's team held their own against the Waterloo Warriors.
Makayla Townes had an incredible 14 saves. Sault local,
Alexa Naslovar scored the team a goal with only five minutes left in the game. The final score was 3-1, with Waterloo taking home the win.
The men's team also held their own for their game. Joshua Bonduc had one save, with Waterloo only scoring one point against the team. After five shots on goal for the Thunderbirds, it was local
Noah Zeppa who brought the game to a tie in the 90th minute extra time with a beautiful bicycle kick goal. The draw leaves the team with another point towards the season.
Next game day action will be at Brock University. On September 30th, the teams will warm up in orange once again for the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation. On October 1st, we have partnered with Brock to support the OUA's Anti-Racism campaign. Both sets of games will be at 1pm & 3:15pm!
